Welcome to LSCMI!

The globalisation of the world economy and China's entry into WTO bring both challenges and opportunities to Hong Kong's logistics industries. The current global economic environment, marked by increased demand, decreased customer loyalty, shorter product life-cycles, and mass product customization, forces companies to lower costs while increasing the quality and variety of products and services.

With increasing competition from booming neighboring countries, Hong Kong has to reinvent itself from a pure transportation hub to a logistics hub by providing value to the goods flowing in the global supply chain that connects the greater China region with the rest of the world.

The Logistics and Supply Chain Management Institute (LSCMI) was established in 2002 to coordinate research, education and industrial cooperation efforts in order to maintain Hong Kong's competitive edge. Our efforts include:

1. The study of theories and techniques for the design, development and management of integrated logistics supply chain systems.

2. The development of information technologies / systems for integration with, and efficient operation of transportation, logistics and supply chains.

3. The delivery of knowledge and technologies to the local industry through education and industrial cooperation. The Institute is initiated jointly by Departments in HKUST's School of Engineering and School of Business and Management. The IELM Department serves as home base for LSCMI and thus provides administrative support.
